HVA Lobby local MP on 2012 Budget
Hastings Voluntary Action issued a briefing paper on the 2012 budget and have been looking at the implications for Voluntary organisations. We are extremely concerned about the potential impact of the Chancellor’s proposal to introduce a cap on tax relief for charitable donations above £50,000 or 25% of income (whichever is the greater) that can be offset against Income Tax – including Gift Aid. We lobbied Amber Rudd on this issue asking her to write to the Prime Minister and raise the matter in parliament to amend this measure so that charitable donations are exempted from the cap. A copy of HVAs letter can be viewed as an attachment at the bottom of this posting. We will keep members updated on this issue and publish any reply we receive.
NCVO and other national charities have been leading a campaign to challenge the introduction of a cap on income tax relief which they fear will discourage major donors giving large, one-off donations to charities such as the Sussex Community Foundation.
