HVA Lobby local MP on 2012 Budget
Hastings Voluntary Action issued a briefing paper on the 2012 budget and have been looking at the implications for Voluntary organisations. We are extremely concerned about the potential impact of the Chancellor’s proposal to introduce a cap on tax relief for charitable donations above £50,000 or 25% of income (whichever is the greater) that can be offset against Income Tax – including Gift Aid. We lobbied Amber Rudd on this issue asking her to write to the Prime Minister and raise the matter in parliament to amend this measure so that charitable donations are exempted from the cap. A copy of HVAs letter can be viewed as an attachment at the bottom of this posting. We will keep members updated on this issue and publish any reply we receive.
NCVO and other national charities have been leading a campaign to challenge the introduction of a cap on income tax relief which they fear will discourage major donors giving large, one-off donations to charities such as the Sussex Community Foundation. Details of the ‘Give it back, George - drop the charity tax’ campaign at http://giveitbackgeorge.org/back-the-campaign/

Community Volunteering Qualification (CVQ) Available at HVA
HVA have successfully secured funding, in partnership with Sussex Learning Solutions Ltd, through Sussex Downs College, to once again offer the CVQ to people currently volunteering. The CVQ is a nationally recognised (accredited) qualification that gives recognition for the work that volunteers do; other benefits for participants include increased confidence in carrying out their voluntary role, valuable stepping stone to achieving other qualifications & paid work and improving organisational and time-management skills.
HVA Director Steve Manwaring outlined the importance of this initiative:-
“We are delighted that we have secured funding to re-launch this initiative. The Volunteering Passport has, to date enabled over 100 people to achieve a recognised qualification and we are extremely pleased to be able to offer this again to local groups and their volunteers”.
If you would like to apply, or find out more, contact Ian Rabbett at HVA on 01424 444010, or by email ian@hvauk.org
