Who I work with

East Sussex Council for Voluntary Youth Service - ESCVYS (www.escvys.org.uk ) who is an independent organisation providing a specialist voice for the voluntary and community sector working with children and young people in East Sussex. ESCVYS is a network of over 115 voluntary youth organisations and projects working with over 12,000 young people in East Sussex.

ESCVYS provides:

  • representation mechanisms for the Children's Trust
  • regular email updates around policy, training, funding and sector news
  • a support service around developing the appropriate policies and procedures
  • networking opportunities for members
  • forum events on relevant topics i.e. extended schools and Every Child Matters
  • a point of referral between colleagues working with children and young people in East Sussex
  • consultation on relevant voluntary and community sector issues

Who I work with

East Sussex Association for the Blind (ESAB) works across the rural districts of East Sussex and in Brighton and Hove. Our staff provide a wide range of services to nearly 1500 members, the majority of whom are elderly.

Mary also works with East Sussex Vision Care which is a network of East Sussex Association of Blind People, Hastings and Rother Voluntary Action for the Blind, Eastbourne Blind Society. Those organisations are working together to promote quality services fro blind and visually impaired people.

Ian is a memeber of East Sussex Strategic Partnership (ESSP), where he represents faith communities.
He also attends Wealden Local Strategic Partenrship (LSP), Lewes Local Strategic Partenrship (LSP) and Migrant Action Group led by ESCC.

Who I work with

Ian works as Mission and Unity Co-ordinator at Churches Together in Sussex. Churches Together is a network of Christian Denominations, organisations and over 50 local groups which have Church unity as one of their primary goals.  Across Sussex over 100,000 men, women and children attend 1000 churches every Sunday, and many also work within their local communities to enrich the lives of those who live, work and visit Sussex.

Churches Together in Sussex are a co-ordinating and facilitating umbrella group and co-ordinates the activities of the various individual groups of "Churches Together" in towns and villages across Sussex. Approx. 50 groups, meets at different times, please contact Ian for details. Churches Together in Sussex also works to promote the role of all 1000 Christian Churches in Sussex and seeks to provide a link with other faith communities.

Who I work with

Care for The Carers facilitates a Carers Planning and Development group, which brings together the organisations and agencies that work with carers in East Sussex, with an equal number of East Sussex carers. This acts as a mechanism to gather views, share information and feedback.

Who I work withAge Concern is a national federation of independent charities. Age Concern East Sussex is the County organisation for 19 Age Concern Groups and provides leadership and support as appropriate. The local network of Age Concerns represents the interests of older people, ensure the voice of older people themselves are at the heart of decision-making and planning, influences and campaigns and provides a wide range of services.

Steve Hare will also, through his role on the SpeakUp Forum, help representing on the county wide level views of the East Sussex Seniors Forum and Meridian Mature Citizens Forum.

Who I work with

Hastings Voluntary Action (HVA) aims to enhance the quality of life of people in the Hastings area by promoting the principle and practice of voluntary action by both individuals and organised groups, and by supporting the development of local initiatives to meet community needs.

HVA works with the groups from voluntary and community sector in Hastings area in a whole range of ways. HVA attends a wide range of meetings to enable the statutory partners to find out more about voluntary and community sector activity and capability in Hastings and to be able to feedback to the sector about statutory events, schemes of work and consultations.

Hastings constituency is also represented by Fran McKeown representing Hastings Community Network, which provides direct feedback to and from the voluntary and community sector groups in Hastings.

Who I work with

3VA works with the groups from Voluntary and Community Sector in Eastbourne, Lewes District and Wealden in a whole range of ways. 3VA attends meetings such as the Liaison Group meeting to enable the statutory partners to find out more about voluntary and community sector activity and capability in Eastbourne and to be able to feedback to the sector about statutory events, schemes of work and consultations.

Wealden groups are also represented by Sue Shoesmith from 3VA Wealden and Wealden Community Network.

Who I work with

Rother Voluntary Action (RVA) who works with the groups from voluntary and community sector in Rother in a whole range of ways. RVA attends meetings to enable the statutory partners to find out more about voluntary and community sector activity and capability in Rother District and to be able to feedback to the sector about statutory events, schemes of work and consultations. Gina also represents on the SpeakUp Forum three Community Networks in Rother - Bexhill, Rye and Muddy Boots (Battle)

Who I work with

Nick is working for The East Sussex Disability Association (ESDA) which is an organisation led by disabled people, where non-disabled and disabled people work together to promote the equality and full participation of disabled people in society. Through its activities and services, ESDA provides expert advice, information and practical support to disabled people in overcoming any barriers they encounter. Through ESDA's campaigns, forums, training, research and representation, the voice of disabled people influences the movement towards equal rights in society.

Who I work withLINk - The East Sussex Local Involvement Network in Health and Social Care is a network of local people, organisations and groups that want to make all publically funded health and social care services better.  It aims to give the communities of East Sussex a stronger voice in the current health and social care services and their future provision.  The LINk is supported by a host organisation based at the East Sussex Disability Association (ESDA) and has a core/development group to guide and develop its work.

Who I work withWealden ComNet is a Local Community Network that brings together people from the voluntary and community sector, with statutory partners to share information and experience and become involved in local partnership work. The Community Network provides an opportunity to have a real impact on the issues which affect us all, such as Health, the Environment, Education, the Local Economy etc. It also acts as a means of consulting the voluntary sector for statutory bodies recording needs and seeking views. The Community Network organises conferences and administers small grants.

CVS Partnership in East Sussex

The CVS Partnership in East Sussex brings together HVA, RVA, SDCVS and EAVS to ensure consistent and quality delivery of infrastructure support to members across East Sussex. Infrastructure support includes developing new groups and supporting existing ones with funding advice, governance support, training, newsletter and other communicaion support. It also ensures member groups have the opportunity to network and represent their views and strategic concerns.

East Sussex Advice Plus

East Sussex Advice Plus is a partnership of independent legal advice agencies in East Sussex. It is a lottery funded project to support the advice agencies to work in partnership with each other. The Partnership includes: 8 Citizens Advice Bureaus, Shelter, HARC (Hastings Advice and Representation Centre) , BHT’s (Brighton Housing Trust) Eastbourne Advice Centre and the Newhaven Community Development Association.

Who I work with

The East Sussex Advice Partnership (ESAP) is made up of, Citizens Advice East Sussex, Brighton Housing Trust, Hastings Advice and Representation Centre and Shelter  (Hastings). The advantage of working together is that no one single agency can achieve the delivery of an East Sussex wide legal advice service.  This can only be achieved by pooling together the strengths of the respective partners in terms of geographical spread and range/capacity of advice.

Who I work with Hastings and Rother Rainbow Alliance is an organisation that is working to support the Lesbian, gay, Bisexual and Transgender local community. Dave is part of the LGBT Equalities Forum (Hastings and East Sussex) which is a joint project between voluntary and community organizations, statutory bodies and University of Brighton. The project which will examine lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) equalities in public bodies. The group aims not only to foreground LGBT equalities work and highlight areas for improvement, but also to create a space for services and the communities they serve to talk to and work with each other in a spirit of partnership

Who I work withCampaign for Better Transport East Sussex campaigns on local issues and supports the national organisation in pressing for sustainable transport. We are currently focused on campaigning against the proposed Hastings Link Road. We also work with the County Council on their parking constraints policy, advising on hospital and college travel plans in Bexhill and Hastings. We are working through the media to support a decent cycle network for Eastbourne, as well as getting involved with Southdown’s national park proposal.
